Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1828 to 1830.
He was a British soldier and statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of the 19th century.
Wellington served in the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars, rising to the rank of Field Marshal.
He famously led the allied forces to victory at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
Wellington was a Whig MP from 1806 to 1809 and served as Commander-in-Chief of the British Army from 1827 to 1828.
He was also a member of the House of Lords from 1812 to 1846 and served as Foreign Secretary from 1809 to 1828.
Wellington was Prime Minister for two years, from 1828 to 1830, and was the last British Prime Minister to serve as a member of the House of Lords.
