Edward Heath was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1970 to 1974.

He was a member of the Conservative Party and led the country during a time of economic difficulties.

Heath served in Parliament for over 50 years, from 1950-2001, representing the constituencies of Bexley and Old Bexley & Sidcup.

As Prime Minister, Heath introduced a number of policy initiatives, including joining the European Economic Community (now known as the European Union).

He is also known for his role in the miners' strike of 1972, in which he sought to reduce the power of the trade unions.

Heath was also a keen yachtsman, representing Britain in the Dragon class at the Olympic Games in 1948 and 1952, and winning the Coronation Cup in 1971.

He was knighted in 1992 and received the Order of Merit in 2003.
