Biography, UK, Prime Minister, Gordon Brown (2007-2010)
Gordon Brown was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2007 to 2010.
He was elected as the Labour Party leader in 2007, succeeding Tony Blair.
During his tenure as Prime Minister, he was largely responsible for the Northern Rock bailout and the introduction of a number of economic stimulus packages during the 2008-2009 financial crisis.
He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Department for International Development, as well as the International Finance Facility for Immunisation.
Brown was also the first Prime Minister to visit and give a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.
He was knighted in the 2010 Dissolution Honours List.
Prior to becoming Prime Minister, Brown served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1997 to 2007, becoming the longest-serving holder of the post.
