Herbert Henry Asquith was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1908 to 1916.

He was born in Morley, Yorkshire in 1852 and was educated at Oxford University.

He was a lawyer by profession and was elected to the House of Commons in 1886.

He became Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1905 and was appointed Prime Minister in 1908.

As Prime Minister, Asquith introduced a number of important reforms, including the introduction of Old Age Pensions and the National Insurance Act of 1911.

During his time in office, Britain was involved in World War I and Asquith's government was heavily criticised for its handling of the war.

Asquith resigned in 1916 and was succeeded by David Lloyd George.
