John Stuart, Earl of Bute was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1762 to 1763.

He was the first Scottish Prime Minister and the last Prime Minister to be appointed by the monarch without the approval of Parliament.

Bute was a Tory and a protégé of the Duke of Newcastle and a close friend of King George III.

He was appointed Prime Minister in 1762 in an effort to bring stability to the government after a period of political instability.

During his time in office, he achieved a number of successes, including the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Seven Years War in 1763.

However, he was unable to win the support of Parliament and was forced to resign in 1763.

After his resignation, Bute was appointed to a number of positions, including Lord Steward of the Household.
