Lord John Russell was a British Prime Minister from 1846 to 1852 and from 1865 to 1866.
He was an important member of the Whig Party and had a long political career.
He was a supporter of Parliamentary Reform and was a leader of the movement for the repeal of the Corn Laws in 1846.
He was born in 1792 and was the son of the 4th Duke of Bedford.
He was appointed to the Privy Council in 1839 and served as Home Secretary from 1835 to 1839.
In 1846, he became Prime Minister and was in office during the Great Famine in Ireland.
He resigned in 1852 and was re-elected in 1865.
