Neville Chamberlain was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1937-1940.

He is best known for his policy of appeasement towards Nazi Germany, believing that through diplomacy the two countries could avoid war.

Chamberlain was the son of Joseph Chamberlain, a prominent politician and businessman in Birmingham.

He was first elected as a Member of Parliament for Birmingham in 1918 and served as Minister of Health from 1923-1924.

In 1929, he became Chancellor of the Exchequer and in 1937, he became Prime Minister.

During his time as Prime Minister, Chamberlain signed the Munich Agreement, attempting to appease Hitler and avoid war.

He was succeeded by Winston Churchill in 1940, following the German invasion of Poland.
