Ramsay MacDonald was the first British Prime Minister from the Labour Party, serving in 1924 and from 1929 to 1935.

He was born in Lossiemouth, Scotland in 1866 and raised in a religious family.

He was an active member of the Social Democratic Federation, which later became the British Labour Party.

MacDonald was a key figure in the creation of the Labour Party's first government in 1924.

He was re-elected in 1929 and formed the first-ever National Government in August 1931.

He was primarily responsible for leading the country through the Great Depression, introducing various social reforms such as unemployment insurance and the Widows, Orphans and Old Age Pension Act.

After the General Election of 1935, MacDonald resigned as Prime Minister and was succeeded by Stanley Baldwin.
