Biography, UK, Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin (1923 to 1924, 1924 to 1929, 1935 to 1937)

Stanley Baldwin was a British Conservative politician who served as Prime Minister three times from 1923 to 1924, 1924 to 1929 and 1935 to 1937.

He was born in Bewdley, Worcestershire in 1867, and was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge.

He began his political career in 1908 as a Member of Parliament for Bewdley and served in various roles in the Conservative governments of the 1910s and 1920s.

Baldwin was appointed Prime Minister in 1923 and again in 1924, and served until 1929.

During his time in office he was known for his commitment to free trade, as well as his attempts to reduce the power of the House of Lords.

He returned to power in 1935 and served until 1937, during which time he was known for his support of British rearmament and the appeasement of Nazi Germany.

Baldwin retired from politics in 1937 and was made a Viscount in 1937. He died in 1947.
