William Lamb, Viscount Melbourne was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1834 to 1835 and again from 1835 to 1841.

He was a British Whig statesman who was noted for his progressive political views and liberal policies.

Melbourne served as Home Secretary in 1827 and Foreign Secretary in 1830 before becoming Prime Minister in 1834.

During his time as Prime Minister, he worked to establish the National Gallery and reformed the Poor Laws.

He was also an advocate for electoral reform and helped to abolish slavery in the British Empire.

He was a strong supporter of Queen Victoria, who regarded him as her political mentor.

He was created Viscount Melbourne in 1839 in recognition of his service to the nation.
