Biography, US Presidents, Franklin Pierce (1853 to 1857)
Franklin Pierce was the 14th President of the United States, serving from 1853 to 1857.
He was born on November 23, 1804 in Hillsborough, New Hampshire.
He studied at Bowdoin College and was admitted to the bar in 1827.
He began his political career as a member of the New Hampshire legislature and later served as a member of the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate.
He was nominated for President by the Democratic Party and won the election in 1852.
During his Presidency, he was known for his pro-slavery stance and for his support of the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
After leaving office, he returned to private life and died in 1869.
