James Earl Carter Jr., commonly known as Jimmy Carter, was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
He was born and raised in the state of Georgia and worked as a peanut farmer and served two terms in the Georgia State Senate.
After his term as President, Carter created the Carter Center in 1982 to promote and expand human rights, democracy and peace.
During his presidency, Carter was known for implementing deregulations and advocating for human rights.
He also conducted successful negotiations with the government of Iran in 1980 to secure the release of 52 hostages.
He played a pivotal role in the Camp David Accords of 1978, a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts.
