John Tyler (1790-1862) was the 10th president of the United States from 1841 to 1845.

Tyler was born in Charles City County, Virginia, and graduated from the College of William and Mary.

Before entering politics, Tyler was a lawyer and planter, and served in the Virginia House of Delegates and the US House of Representatives.

He was elected Vice President in 1840, and became President when William Henry Harrison died in April 1841.

Tyler was the first vice president to serve as president following the death of a sitting president.

As president, Tyler opposed the Whig Party and vetoed many of their bills, leading to a conflict with his party and Congress.

Tyler was the first president to see the annexation of Texas and the Oregon Territory become part of the United States.
