Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974.
Before becoming President, he served as the 36th Vice President from 1953 to 1961.
He was also a U.S. Representative and Senator from California.
Nixon was a Republican who ran on a platform of ending the war in Vietnam and improving civil rights.
He is most remembered for being the first president to resign from office due to the Watergate scandal.
After resigning, Nixon maintained a low profile, but remained active in politics.
He wrote several books and made public appearances, most notably during the Iran–Contra affair.
