During the early 20th century, a number of international blockades occurred, such as the British naval blockade of Germany during World War I.
The British also blockaded the United States during the War of 1812, to prevent the importation of weapons and supplies to the US.
In the early 1900s, the US imposed a blockade on Cuba during the Cuban-American War, to prevent the Cuban government from receiving aid from the US.
In the 1940s, the US imposed an economic blockade on Japan during World War II, to prevent the Japanese from obtaining supplies from the US.
The US also imposed a blockade on North Korea in 1950 during the Korean War, in an attempt to stop the North Korean military from receiving supplies from the Soviet Union and China.
In the 1960s, the US imposed a naval blockade on the Cuban Missile Crisis, in an effort to prevent Soviet ships from delivering missiles to Cuba.
In the 1970s, the US imposed a blockade on Chile, to prevent the Chilean military from receiving aid from the Soviet Union.
