In 1580, Sir Francis Drake completed the first successful circumnavigation of the world, becoming one of the most famous English explorers of all time.

Drake sailed around the world in a three-year journey, leaving Plymouth in 1577.

During his voyage, Drake visited the Caribbean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Indian Ocean.

Drake and his crew were the first Englishmen to visit the Galápagos Islands, as well as the first to sail around the world in an English-built ship.
