CE 1605 - Guy Fawkes fails in his attempt to blow up Parliament.
In 1605, Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London, England, in an act of terror and rebellion.
The plan was known as the Gunpowder Plot, and it was led by a group of Catholic revolutionaries.
The plot was foiled when a group of loyal citizens discovered Guy Fawkes in the cellar of the Houses of Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder.
Guy Fawkes was arrested and interrogated, and he confessed to the plot.
He was publicly executed in 1606 for his part in the plot against the government.
The Gunpowder Plot is remembered in the UK on November 5th each year, when fireworks and bonfires are lit in memory of the failed plot.
The Houses of Parliament have a police guard on Guy Fawkes Night and a ceremony is held in the Palace of Westminster to remember the plot.
