In 1952, Elizabeth II was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, making her the youngest ever monarch of the United Kingdom.
The coronation of Elizabeth II took place at Westminster Abbey in London on 2 June 1952.
Her Majesty was anointed with holy oil, presented with a golden orb and sceptre, and received the homage and oaths of loyalty of the peers of the realm.
The coronation was televised for the first time and was watched by millions of people around the world.
After the coronation, the Queen and her consort, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, made a three-month tour of the Commonwealth realms, visiting Jamaica, New Zealand, Australia, Ceylon, and Uganda.
The Queen's coronation was also commemorated with a series of eight stamps issued by the Royal Mail.
The Queen was also given the title of Defender of the Faith, a title she holds to this day.
