Western Etosha National Park was formed in 1967 in Namibia.
It is an important wildlife sanctuary, home to a wide range of animals such as elephants, lions, zebras, rhinos and more.
It is recommended to visit between April and October, when the park is at its most lush and vibrant.
The Etosha Pan is a key attraction, a shallow depression covering 25% of the park, which is filled with water during the wet season and a salt plain during the dry season.
Endangered species in the park include black rhinos and the red-tailed monkey.
Interesting plants in the park include the Welwitschia mirabilis, a species of desert plant found only in Namibia.
The park is also home to over 340 bird species.
