John Stuart Mill (1806-1873) was a British philosopher, economist and political theorist who is considered one of the founders of classical economics.

He was born in 1806 in London, England, to James Mill, a Scotsman who was a close friend and disciple of the philosopher Jeremy Bentham.

Mill was educated by his father, who was a proponent of utilitarianism, and he later became a great proponent of the same philosophy himself.

Mill's most influential work was On Liberty (1859), which argued for individual liberty and a limited government.

He was also a strong advocate for women's rights, and wrote The Subjection of Women (1869).

Mill was an advocate of the free-trade system, and wrote extensively on the subject of economics.

He was elected to Parliament in 1865, and served as a Member of Parliament for five years.
