Louis Renault was born in 1877 in France.
He was a French industrialist and one of the founders of Renault, a French automobile company.
Renault's first car, the Renault Voiturette 1CV, became the first car to be mass-produced in 1899.
He was a self-taught engineer and innovator, and was known for his philanthropy and commitment to the French government.
In the early 1900s, he helped develop the first French tank, the Renault FT-17.
He was also a major supplier of vehicles to the Allied forces during WWI.
He was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1918 for his services to the war effort.
