Sir Titus Salt (1803-1876) was a British entrepreneur and philanthropist best known for founding the model village of Saltaire in the North of England.

Salt was the son of a woolstapler and served his apprenticeship with a firm of worsted spinners in Bradford.

In 1837, he opened his own woolen mill in the village of Saltaire and used the latest techniques to produce a superior quality of cloth.

His mill employed over 3000 workers and provided a variety of amenities for his employees, including well-equipped housing, a school, a hospital, a library, and a park.

This innovative approach to workers' rights and welfare was unprecedented in the 19th century and earned Salt a reputation as a champion of reform.

In addition to his philanthropic activities, Salt was also a successful businessman and served as mayor of Bradford in 1848 and 1851.

He was knighted in 1869 in recognition of his contributions to industry and philanthropy.
