Al-Beruni, also known as Abu Raihan Muhammad ibn Ahmad Al-Beruni, was a famous medieval scholar who traveled to India in 1017 A.D.
He was a Persian polymath who wrote an important book on India called ‘Kitab-ul-Hind’ which contains information about the various aspects of Indian life.
In 1017, Al-Beruni set out on his journey from Bukhara, in modern-day Uzbekistan, to India.
He traveled through Iran and Afghanistan, and eventually arrived in India in the year 1017.
During his stay in India, Al-Beruni studied the Indian sciences, philosophy, geography and mathematics.
He also wrote commentaries on the Vedas, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.
Al-Beruni was a keen observer and wrote details about the various religions of India, including Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
