History of India, 1120 AD, Kalyani Chalukya Empire attained peak, Vikramaditya VI introduced Vikrama Chalukya Era

The Kalyani Chalukya Empire was a powerful imperial dynasty that ruled much of the Deccan region of South India between the 10th and 12th centuries.

The empire was founded by Tailapa II, a feudatory of the Rashtrakutas, and rose to power under the rule of his son Vikramaditya VI.

During Vikramaditya's reign, the Kalyani Chalukya Empire attained its peak, encompassing most of the Deccan, Konkan, and parts of central India.

Vikramaditya VI was a great patron of the arts and literature and made great contributions to the field of Sanskrit poetry.

He also introduced the Vikrama Chalukya era in 1120 AD, which is still used in parts of South India.

He was an able administrator and a powerful warrior who defeated the rulers of the Chola and Hoysala dynasties in battle.

He is also credited with the establishment of the Kannada language, which was declared the official language of the Kalyani Chalukya Empire.
