The Late Medieval period in Indian history (1300 AD - 1500 AD) was marked by the emergence of large regional empires, and the rise of powerful dynasties such as the Delhi Sultanate, the Vijayanagara Empire, and the Mughal Empire.

During this period, India experienced significant changes in the political, economic and cultural spheres.

Delhi Sultanate was one of the largest empires in the Late Medieval period, stretching across the northern parts of India. It was founded by Turkic invaders, and ruled by five dynasties: the Mamluk dynasty (1206–90); the Khilji dynasty (1290–1320); the Tughlaq dynasty (1320–1414); the Sayyid dynasty (1414–51); and the Lodi dynasty (1451–1526).

The Vijayanagara Empire was another major empire during this period, ruling much of South India from 1336 to 1646. During its rule, the empire achieved significant economic and cultural development.
