History of India, 1740 AD, Balaji Bajirao took over after Bajirao I’s death
After the death of Bajirao I in 1740, his son Balaji Bajirao (also known as Nana Sahib) succeeded him as the Peshwa of the Maratha Empire.
Balaji Bajirao was known for his administrative and political acumen and is credited with expanding the Maratha Empire to its greatest extent.
Under his rule, the Maratha Empire extended its control over a large part of the Indian subcontinent, including modern-day states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka.
He also successfully fought several wars against the Nizam of Hyderabad, the Mughal Empire, and the British East India Company.
Balaji Bajirao was also successful in securing strategic alliances with other local rulers, such as the Rajputs, the Gaekwads of Baroda, and the Holkars of Indore.
He also implemented several economic and administrative reforms, such as reducing taxes, abolishing oppressive practices, and encouraging the cultivation of cash crops.
