History of India, 3300 BC to 1700 BC, Indus Valley Civilization

The Indus Valley Civilization, also known as the Harappan Civilization, was one of the oldest civilizations of the world and flourished in South Asia from 3300 BC to 1700 BC.

The civilization was centered around the Indus River and its tributaries, and extended from modern day Northwest India and Pakistan to the Arabian Sea.

The civilization was characterized by its urban planning, efficient drainage and sewerage systems, and a system of weights and measures.

They had a well-developed system of trade and commerce. They primarily made use of copper, bronze and silver for their tools, weapons and jewelry.

The Indus Valley Civilization was very advanced in terms of art and architecture. Some of the monuments they built include the Great Bath of Mohenjo-daro, the Granary of Harappa, and the Citadel of Mohenjo-daro.

They also had a highly developed system of writing, which is yet to be deciphered.

The religion of the Indus Valley Civilization is still unknown, but archaeological evidence suggests that they worshipped a pantheon of gods.
