History of India, 761 AD, Mohammed Bin Qasim, the first Muslim Invader invades

Mohammed bin Qasim was an Umayyad general from present-day Iraq who invaded India in 761 AD.

He was the first Muslim invader to enter India and was sent by the Umayyad Caliph Al-Mansur to put down a local revolt.

Qasim defeated the forces of Raja Dahir, the ruler of Sindh, at the Battle of Raor and captured the Sindh region.

He established an Umayyad province in Sindh, with its capital at Mansura near modern Karachi, and appointed his foster brother, Jaisiya, as its governor.

Qasim introduced Islam to the region and consolidated his rule by building forts and encouraging conversions.

He also built a navy and set up a trading post in the port of Debal.

Qasim was eventually defeated by the combined forces of the Hindu rulers of the region and was recalled to the Umayyad court in 762.
