Lakshmi Mittal is an Indian entrepreneur born in 1950.
He is the Chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steelmaking company.
In 1976, he founded a steel business in India and was successful in turning it into a global business.
In 1994, Mittal acquired a steel plant in Indonesia and expanded his business to the international market.
In 2004, Mittal made the largest ever hostile takeover in corporate history when he acquired the European steel company, Arcelor.
Following the acquisition, Mittal formed ArcelorMittal in 2006, the world’s leading steel and mining company.
He is also the recipient of several awards and honors, including the Padma Vibhushan (India’s second highest civilian honor) in 2007.
