Tell me more about the the relationships between the colonies and the American Indians

At the start of the colonial period, many American Indian tribes welcomed European settlers, trading goods and offering assistance.

In some cases, American Indians and colonists formed alliances to fight against common enemies.

However, as land became less available, tensions between colonists and American Indians began to rise.

In the 1600s and 1700s, many American Indian tribes were forced to cede their land to colonists in exchange for money and goods.

In the late 1700s, the US government began to pass legislation that allowed settlers to take American Indian land with little or no compensation.

During this time, the US government also established a policy of Indian Removal that forced American Indians to relocate to Indian Territory in the West.

In the 1830s, the US government passed the Indian Removal Act which forced thousands of American Indians to leave their ancestral homes and move to Indian Territory.
