Andrew Carnegie was born in 1835 in Dunfermline, Scotland.
He moved to the United States in 1848 and began working at a textile mill.
By 1855, he was working as a telegraph operator in Pittsburgh.
In 1864, he founded the Carnegie Steel Company, which eventually became the largest steel manufacturer in the world.
Carnegie was a major philanthropist, donating large sums of money to libraries, universities, and charities.
He also was a strong proponent of world peace, encouraging international diplomacy during the early 20th century.
He wrote several books, including his autobiography, The Gospel of Wealth.
