He was born in 1983 in Acton, Massachusetts, and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2001 to 2005.

During his time at MIT, Houston developed the idea for Dropbox, which he first implemented in 2006.

By 2009, he had secured $7.2 million in venture capital funding and had launched the service publicly.

Dropbox quickly became one of the most popular file storage and sharing services, with more than 500 million registered users in 2017.

Houston is also an investor, having made investments in various companies, including Twitter, Airbnb, and Slack.

In 2018, Houston was named one of Fortune magazine's 40 under 40, a list of the most influential young people in business.
