Edwin Land (1909-1991) was an American entrepreneur best known for his invention of the Polaroid Corporation, the instant-picture camera.
He was born in the United States in 1909 and attended Harvard University.
He is credited with inventing the first practical instant-picture cameras and film in 1947.
He was the founder and president of Polaroid Corporation and held over 500 patents related to his invention.
Land was also the recipient of numerous awards, including the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1983.
He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1982.
Land was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
