What are comets?
Comets are small icy bodies composed of dust, rocks, and frozen gases that orbit the Sun.
They are often referred to as “dirty snowballs” due to their icy and dusty composition.
Comets often form a bright visible head and a glowing tail when they near the Sun.
The tail of the comet is created when the heat from the Sun causes some of the gases and dust to become excited and emit light.
Comets originate in two areas of the Solar System: the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud.
The Kuiper Belt is a region of icy bodies located beyond Neptune, while the Oort Cloud is a region of icy bodies located at the outer edges of the Solar System.
Examples of comets include Halley’s Comet, Hale-Bopp, and Tempel-Tuttle.
