What is the Water Cycle?

The Water Cycle is the continuous movement of water from the Earth’s surface to the atmosphere and back again.

Evaporation is when liquid water turns into water vapor and rises into the atmosphere.

Condensation is when water vapor cools and forms clouds.

Precipitation is when the clouds release water back onto the Earth’s surface in the form of rain, snow, hail, and sleet.

Infiltration is when the water from precipitation moves down through the Earth’s surface and into the ground.

Runoff is when the water on the Earth’s surface flows into rivers and streams and returns to the oceans and seas.

Storage is when water is stored in the atmosphere, oceans, lakes, and ice caps.
